Each with a stand. A strong indication of the Nepalese origin of the Atlas-like kneeling yaksha figures can be found in early stone carvings from the Licchavi through the Malla periods. Some such figures formed part of architectural structures, as seen, on example of two reliefs from 8/9th century in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (inv. nos. 1991.44 and 1986.259).
